RECAP: Conflict & Reconciliation

Conflict is a very common thing in the world today .It arises when one misuses the freedom given to us by God. What freedom? The freedom that we have is to love one another and not to satisfy our selfish need Let’s look at Galatians 5:13-15

Galatians 5:13-15 (New International Version)

13You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature[a]; rather, serve one another in love. 14The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."[b] 15If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

Conflict always happens in a relationship and sometime it can’t be avoided. It is not good because it will drain us of our energy and also stop us from loving on another. And if conflict is not resolved it can lead us to destroy one another. That’s why we must always be ready to reconcile with one another.

Reconciling sometimes cannot be easy as because you may have to be the one to take the first step even if it’s not your fault. We will also need to learn to love our enemies. This means we’d have to surrender our rights & need for justice, surrender our hunger for revenge & surrender our ego into God’s safe keeping. Regardless of our situation we must accept each other for better or worse. This may seem impossible but it is not for our God. We must trust Him & play our part too by facing the real issue of the conflict and not ignore it and let God help us get through it. We may also need to become peace makers by :-

•adopting a posture of brotherhood
•adopting a posture of open conversation
•placing ourselves & our pride on the altar

To sum all this up we may need to become our brother keeper where we would need to accept each other no matter what & have an unwillingness to break ties with the person you’re having conflict with. Why do we have to put ourselves through this…..well cause God really meant it when he said love thy neighbor which also include your enemies (take a look at Matthew 5:38-48). Only when we do this, then we know we belong to the Father in heaven.

RECAP : Identity Crisis

This Week's topic was Identity Crisis. It is about knowing our identity in Christ. The message was shared by Pastor Sandra, a very lively speaker from Acts church. She shared about our true identity in Christ when we identified ourselves as Christians, and the need to live out that identity. Often there would be hurdles and doubts that will question our identity, but we need to reaffirm our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. Everyone had a good laugh during her sharing. She pointed out 3 things that we must always remember. Firstly, we are made in the image and likeness of God. For that we must always appreciate ourselves and other also. It you fail to do this, you fail to appreciate your creator. Secondly, we were purchased by the blood of Jesus. This makes us more precious to God because he was willing to send his ONLY son to DIE for US on the cross. Lastly, we can only be completed by Jesus. Without Him there will always be emptiness in us which things of the world can't fill. Although they seem like they could, it will only be temporary as this world will fade away BUT HE IS FOREVER. Always remember without the cross in the word complete, we'll never be complete.

BREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!

Break out. There are different moments in our lives that we are put into a position to breakout. It is still our choice whether we will breakout or stay put in our comfort zones. Following Jesus/Christian faith can be pictured from the passage in Matthew 14: 22-34.

Matthew 14:22-34 (New International Version)

Jesus Walks on the Water
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
27But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." 28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
29"Come," he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"
32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."
34When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret.

The boat in the passage represents our comfort zones/shell where we’d rather stay put than move on. But God promises us good if we follow Him and keep our eyes only on Him. If we focus our eyes on God, He’ll bring us through our struggles. Just like in the passage, when Peter focused on Jesus, he immediately went to Jesus, walking on water. But the wind in the passage is like the things of the world such as temptations to distract our attention from Jesus. It’ll only distract us if we allow it to happen. Sometimes, when we’re going through struggles, we feel alone. That’s not true! In order for us to grow mature in Christ, we have to take courage to step forward, trusting that He’ll catch us. God is there to watching over us and holding our hands. We just needs us to have a little faith in Him. Don’t limit our experiences with God. Every day is a brand new experience with our Father, only if we step out of our comfortable places.

Sometimes we’re just too self-centered, thinking the world revolves around us. God is always inviting us to go back to Him, will we rest our assurance on Him to move on or do we still hold on to the things we think is right? God will have better plans for our lives only if we follow His Ways and trust Him. So, come and break out. Blessings are awaiting us!

~Aimie~

RECAP: MEnistry OR Ministry

MEnistry or Ministry.....hmmm, well last week’s topic for me was very impactful. It was an eye opener on what our ministry should be and what it should NOT be.

The Myths Of Ministry

1)Ministry is something you do and keep doing until you drop
Most people have this very big misconception about serving in a ministry. It is not something you do until you drop – it is not duty

Mat 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

2)You must join a particular ministry because if not, there is no one else! You must!!!!
It is not something that you join out of guilt or out of obligation because otherwise, there is no one else. This is not true as God will always provide

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

2Cor 9:6-7 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

3)It’s All About You

There is no one ministry that is above the other. It’s not about your abilities or how well you performed to grow a particular ministry

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others

So Then What is Ministry about…….

The Truths Of Ministry

1)Availing ourselves to point others to Christ – vessels that is doing it unto God
We are here to Guide people to Christ. We do NOT steal the limelight away from God

John 1:22-23 So they said to him, "Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" .He said, "I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."

John 1:26-27 John answered them, "I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."

2) It gives life – it inspires us to draw closer to God

The ministry must NOT draw us away from God. Those in ministry also cannot draw people away from God (people come to CF just for the music, not worship)
The ministry must still help those serving and those they serve to continually refresh our experience and earnestly to seek God

Luke 10:38-42 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

3) Working together with God AND each other

Working together with God AND with each other – because the ultimate goal of ministry is to bring the love of Christ to others, Christian or otherwise. Not just during CF night… it’s how we do our meetings, how we serve others on a day to day basis
It is not a competition to see which ministry can do better or get more attention / members

1Cor 3:4-7 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not being merely human? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

So One Question Still Remains What Will You CHOOSE……Ministry or MEnistry?

RECAP: Theme talk

In our last CF meet we officially unveiled our theme for this academic year which was

Hey, standing strong?

Why we came up with this theme is because this year we wanted to focus on our foundation in Christ. In other words we’re starting from scratch again.

Our foundation in Christ is fundamental to our growth as Christians. Without a good foundation, it would be quite difficult to build ourselves up as Christians, because whatever that is built on a shaky foundation will not last.

What we hope to achieve with our theme this year is to:-

  1. To encourage personal encounters with God.
  2. To lay an unshakable foundation
  3. To encourage a lifestyle fuelled by love

With this in mind, we would like to inspire and build up each other as a family, let Him change us inside out, and be a good example to our campus as we continue to shine for Christ.

Till we meet again!! in 2010/11

Till we meet again!! in 2010/11

Until We Meet Again
We were given these maps
From which we can not stray
They lead us through life
Ours criss cross along the way

I look back on my journey
The times we walked together
Holding hands as lovers
Hoping it would last forever

One day we came to a mountain
Your path going the other way
A short goodbye, I love you
All we were allowed to say

Quietly with a tear I watch
You walk down that narrow path
Not allowed to come after you
And you're unable to look back

Hope I gave you enough love
To get you safely to the end
I will keep the rest locked up
In case our paths cross again

Recap: Farewell, 20/4/2010

Last week, we had 'Sayonara' as the theme of the week as it's the last CF for this academic year.

Students from each batch came up with either a performance or an appreciation gift.

First, the Alpha(s) gave out appreciation gifts(lolipop + thank you note) to our fellow grads-to-be, followed by the Gamma(s) with an appreciation gift (Life Kit Manual) and well as a performance by Andrew!

Next, while some of the Beta(s) were preparing the Indo Mee everyone was hungry! for the grads-to-be, Naveen, Keith and Caryn had everyone entertained with their remix version of song.. sadly, the video is too large to be uploaded.. no embeded video for that :{ ... at least, for now ;)

Anyhows, im sure everyone was pleased and well entertained by their epic song, and yea, the grads-to-be then had their share of Indo Mee.

Since every batch were allocated 10 minutes, the Delta(s) sure did a great job in using them wisely, i think. Their performance can be found below:

Next, our game master of the day, Alvin, came up with an rather late ice-breaker to break more ice? Everyone sure had a good laugh during the game.

To sum it all up, the grads-to-be came up and gave their thank you speech to everyone in general.. and yes, sadly my(clarence's) camera wasn't fully charged, thus died in the process of recording.

'Sayonara' ended with prayers for the grads-to-be. But yea, on behalf of the CF members, we would to extend our appreciation to all you grads-to-be and we pray for your well being in the phase ahead in life.

Once again, thank you

:D

ReCAp : AGM , 30 March 2010

AGMs, how many among us would actually go for an AGM if given a choice? Yet, i was pleased to see the ammount of CFers coming for AGM last night!

Probably, most of us who attended AGM didn't really treat it as an AGM as we're so closely knitted among each other, it was more like a time to get serious, while fellowshipping.

AGM had a great start with the worship session and followed by Jon G sharing with us about the ultimate servant-leader, Jesus! From there, we were thought to always be humble even as leaders among our peers.

Jesus, the ultimate servant-leader lived His life as an example, so that from Him, we may learn and apply it even as student-servant-leader in our campus.

Followed by that, Jon G called up the fellow current committees and the up coming committees, there, he showed his appreciation towards his fellow comrades that fought along with him during the previous academic year, it is true that often, we overlook and unintentionally forgot their efforts.

So, on behalf of the CF members, im here to extent our appreciation again to the CF comms, for being an example, a source of strength and for being who you are.

After the appreciations, the current comms passed down each of their ministries to the new comms, as the tradition goes, each ministry was passed down via the candle lighting ceremony, as a symbol of passing down the fire from one generation to the other. It was an interesting experience for myself. After the fire passing ceremony, the new comms took the "We will, with God our helper" pledge.

So yea, to all you readers, even in this time of transition, i pray and hope that all of you would play your part, and be supportive to the new comms as each of them takes up their post with faith ;)

AGM for this year is kinda new. We see alot of new face in the committee and we see alot of who are so long in cf leaving the committee and also the cf as they are almost on their peak of graduation.

The service was started with words of praises by Jee Hor. And then Jon-G,our president for the academic year 09/10 had given his long, lengthy
yet inspiring speech and quotations that remarks the pattern and the contribution that was established by the past committee.

The 'fire' was then passed down to the new committee
indicating that they now shall continue the fire in doing the works of God in terms of committing themselves in doing what each of them has to do in ensuring the cf here runs smoothly. Its a mistake to think that cf can run with committee itself but the fact is members are as important as the committee in keeping cf alive in this campus as to reach out the others in campus.

Support from everyone is crucial,so lets be UNITED in one as a christ body to make this posible in establishing the fire in campus .
